Nikos Christodoulides, the Greek Cypriot leader, stated that the Greek Cypriot side is not afraid of Cyprus negotiations and is ready to negotiate.

When asked to comment on President Tufan Erhürman’s statements, Christodoulides stated that everyone would be evaluated at the negotiating table and that the Greek Cypriot side is not afraid of negotiations. Christodoulides also responded to a journalist’s question regarding President Erhürman’s statements not referencing a two-zone, two-community federation.

In his statement, Christodoulides said that he reads the Turkish Cypriot leader’s statements every day and that he has been dealing with the Cyprus problem for many years and has heard and read a lot. In response to this question, Christodoulides noted that everyone would be evaluated at the negotiating table, adding that they want the end of the “occupation” he claims, liberation, and the reunification of the homeland more than anyone else.

Christodoulides stated that they are not afraid of negotiations because they know where they want to go and how to achieve their goals, adding that they are ready to negotiate within the framework of the UN and the principles and values of the EU.

Answering a question about whether he had communicated with President Tufan Erhürman, Christodoulides stated that the Greek Cypriot side has been trying to communicate since the evening Erhürman was elected president, but this has not yet been possible. Christodoulides stated that he received a phone call during the European Council meeting while in Brussels last week, and when he tried to contact him again, he did not receive a response.
