Giorgos Georgiou, Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from the Cypriot Communist AKEL party, has sent a letter to the President of the European Parliament (EP), Roberta Metsola, stating that the planned memorial for the missing persons within the EP building should be a joint monument dedicated to all missing persons in Cyprus.

According to a report in the Haravgi newspaper, Georgiou referred in his letter to the allocation of funds for the construction of a monument dedicated to those missing during the 1974 Peace Operation, emphasizing that the monument should be dedicated to all missing persons in Cyprus.

In his letter, Georgiou summarized that the issue of missing persons is a humanitarian one and should serve as a bridge of reconciliation. He stated that if a monument is to be built, it should be dedicated to the missing persons of all communities in Cyprus between “1963-1974”.
